While many dental problems can be solved with noninvasive treatments and procedures, sometimes oral surgery is necessary for better outcomes.
For instance, surgically placed dental implants are the gold standard when it comes to replacing missing teeth. If you aren’t currently a candidate for implants, advanced procedures such as bone grafting or a sinus lift may help you become one. If a tooth is impacted (partially or completely covered with gum tissue) and damaged or decayed, we may need to perform a surgical extraction to remove it and help preserve the health of your other teeth.
Periodontal disease is often treated using surgical procedures as well. Flap surgery and other procedures help reduce gum pockets, resolve the complications brought about by this chronic condition, and prevent further progression of the disease.
Some surgical procedures may be done for either functional or aesthetic purposes. For example, crown lengthening and gingival sculpting can expose more tooth surface to either correct a gummy smile or make restoration with crowns possible.
At Shapiro Family Dentistry, we will always recommend the most conservative treatment option that will help you achieve your goals. This does sometimes mean that oral surgery is the right option.
Because your comfort and safety are important, we’ll take the time to answer all your questions and make sure that you are numb and relaxed before your procedure. We offer sedation dentistry options and we are happy to discuss this with you prior to your procedure so that we can have a plan in place for you. We’ll also review your home care instructions ahead of your procedure so that you know what to expect and how to properly care for your teeth and gums while you are healing. This kind of information will help you avoid complications and discomfort.
At our Boca Raton and West Palm Beach dental offices, you will truly experience a different kind of dentistry, and we look forward to providing you with our own brand of exceptional care.
